Micky van de Ven scored twice as Tottenham extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of last season.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from corners in the first half to place their strong form at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the scores a short while after the defender's opener, glancing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of fine saves to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road without defeat in the English top flight.

But the VAR intervened, advising Craig Pawson to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves the manager's side into third place in the division, five points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay in 14th position and sit six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven excels in duties at each end of pitch

Following a uninspiring midweek display in the European competition against the French side, where they managed a only two shots on goal, the manager opted for the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to influence the game before being substituted for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an attacking force to be feared.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball toward the face of goal for an free Van de Ven to score.

And the captain - stepping up as captain in Cristian Romero's unavailability - added his next goal in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defence, partnering effectively with Kevin Danso as the duo dealt excellently with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees lacking striker's instinct

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the freshness may have worn off somewhat and fans headed to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a massive concern for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and the other striker - the Toffees' two established centre-forwards - had netted only a single goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to add to that miserable record on a wet and gloomy night on Merseyside.

The striker's form was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, even with having room and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional attempt that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, as well, failed to influence the game after replacing Beto in the second half.

It was not for a shortage of chance. The majority of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped dangerous balls into the Tottenham penalty area.

The Toffees: Moyes' men head to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on Monday, 3 November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: Spurs travel to Newcastle's ground on Wednesday, 29 October for their fourth-round League Cup tie against Newcastle.
